    The term karat (symbol: K or kt) is a unit of purity for gold alloys.

  2. DIAMOND COLOR
    Diamonds are divided chromatically into three broad categories: high-color diamonds, low-color diamonds and colorless diamonds.

  4. DIAMOND WEIGHT (CARAT)
    The carat is a unit of mass equal to 200 mg (0.2 g) and is used for measuring gemstones and pearls.

  5. DIAMOND CLARITY
    Diamond clarity is a quality of diamonds relating to the existence and visual appearance of internal characteristics of a diamond called inclusions, and surface defects called blemishes.
    FL/IF: no inclusions, VVS1/VVS2: minute inclusions, VS1/VS2: minor inclusions, SI1/SI2: noticeable inclusions, I1/I2/I3: inclusions that are usually visible without magnification. Clarity: FL/IF, VVS1/VVS2, VS1/VS2

  6. DIAMOND SHAPE
    The format of a raw stone usually leads to what shape you cut.
    The most popular diamond shape is round (round brilliant) which has 58 surfaces.

  7. DIAMOND POLISH
    Polish refers to the degree of smoothness of each facet of a diamond.
    The polish grade as determined by the GIA, using the following scale:
    - EXCELLENT: No polish defects visible at 10x magnification.
    - VERY GOOD: Any defects are extremely difficult to see at 10x magnification.
    - GOOD: Any defects are difficult to see at 10x magnification.
    - FAIR: Defects are noticeable at 10x magnification, and may be visible to the naked eye.
    - POOR: Defects are visible to the naked eye.

  8. DIAMOND SYMMETRY
    Symmetry refers to how precisely the various facets of a diamond align and intersect. The symmetry grade scale is the same as the polish grade scale above. The symmetry grade modulated according to the type of cutting.

  9. DIAMOND FLUORESCENCE
    Fluorescence is the reaction of trace minerals within the diamond that cause the diamond to glow when exposed to ultraviolet light.
    Fluorescence is a parameter that can improve the color of the diamond.

  10. CERTIFICATE
    Certificates play a large role in determining the value of diamonds. There are many diamond grading laboratories around the world with their own strict standards.
